Google launched its hugely popular Street View Project in India. Initially it is launched in Bangalore, the IT capital of India. Google Street View cars were flagged off by Vinay Goel, Google India chief. Google will collect street view data from cars and tricycles mounted with panoramic camera which can collect 360-degree images. Tricycles will be used in areas where cars are inaccessible.
Google’s Street View project was first introduced in 2007 in the USA. It has been hugely popular ever since its launch. On the other hand, the project has run into problems in some countries. Google has obtained necessary legal approval from the Government of India as well as the state Government and Bangalore police.
Once the data capture is complete, Street View of Banagalore will be available on Google map. Street view is useful for travellers, law enforcement agencies, urban development planners and house hunters.
Google has plans to extend the Street View project to other cities in India.
